How to do a oil change yourself

Been looking around I was going to do it with my dad but can't be asked to wait for him so been looking on Google,

It seems quite easy:

Ideally you should do it after the engine has been run as the oil will be thinner and easier to drain, although id would let the engine cool down for about 10-15minutes so you dont burn yourself.

Jack the car up on level ground, stick some newspaper or clothes underneath the sump so you dont get it all ova the floor.

Take off the sump nut and take it off carefully as it will start gushing out, let it drain out into a suitable container.

Undo oil filter and carefully remove it as its full of oil.

Clean up any oil and crap around the filter area, the block and the sump.

Get new oil filter, smother the seal with some fresh oil and fit it to the block.

Refit the sump nut nice n tight.

Tip new oil into engine about a litre at a time so it drains through to the sump.

Check the dipstick to see how much you put in.

Refit oil cap, lower car, run engine on idle for approx 10 minutes, do not rev it turn off engine and check oil level again. Top up as necessary.
Not too sure what the sump nut looks like so I will get a picture for everyone when I am doing it then I will rewrite this and get it placed into the tutorial section.

mate just seen ur post about 'servicing' your own car and how much of a 'rip off' garages are yes u did it cheaper but not being funny what u did was not a full service u did not check the gearbox oil level and condition, suspension components, brakes, tp's, undebonnet levels and conditions, spark plug gap, grease hinges and battery terminals, battery condition. tbh i could go on and on about how much uve missed that could be potentially dangerous faults.

im not having a go mate but dont want others following ur guide and thinking theyve done a full service, good on you for doing it and the tutorial :)

If you read in the tutorial mate I did say I havne't done everything such as coolant etc as quite simply I haven't had the time yet. I will be moving onto all them checks even more of them but I wanted to get something up there for people who didn't know such basic things.

i did my own service today and i find its easy to do it your self sometimes. i did'n have the time to take it to a garage and wait about it took me 50mins.
changed the plugs, air filter, oil, oil filter, added some more coolant and toped up water, changed my battery as it needed changing anyway, and i had a good clean under the hood.

i think its good for people to get stuck in and try it them selfs.

okay i agree that you should'n service it your self all the time.

but if u never try you'll never know how:salut:

just fit a magnetic sump plug, easy way to see bits.
sorry you are not going to learn much about a corsa d engine, just by changing the oil.(only how to change the oil)
most people change there own only for one thing, to save a pound.

can i also ask what you good people do with that old oil,as all garages have to pay to have it taken away.(i hope you do not just tip it away)
